The Department of Solid Waste Management provides the customers of McDuffie County with an environmentally responsible and cost-effective system for reduction and disposal of solid waste through quality service, education and public involvement.
McDuffie County operates a solid waste transfer station located off Mesena Road. All solid waste generated in McDuffie County is processed through this facility. McDuffie County also has agreements with several other counties to accept their solid waste for disposal.
McDuffie County Solid Waste Department handles the waste stream produced by the citizens of McDuffie County. In addition, the department handles the waste streams of Glascock and Warren counties and the cities of Thomson, Dearing, Gibson, Warrenton, and Crawfordville.
Our waste goes to the Waste Management owned R&B; Landfill in Homer, Ga. We operate a transfer station and inert landfill with a some source separated recycling.
In the future, we will expand our facility to accommodate our ever-increasing waste stream. Our new facility should accommodate the projected growth for at least the next 10 years, and with new technology, it will be more economic with more efficient operation.
Our facility is located on Mesena Road, 4.5 miles west of Thomson. We accept all commercial and residential waste (excluding asbestos and biomedical materials) produced in our area. All waste prices are pro-rated for the amount of waste you bring in.
We accept Ni-Cad batteries from cell phones, cordless phones, pagers, etc. They are accepted free of charge. Please present them to the attendant at the scale house.
Tires are accepted. The prices vary between passenger car and truck tires. Please call for prices.
A special residential waste drop-off site is maintained for a clean, quick disposal area for those wishing to haul their own trash and save a little cash. We’ll assist you in unloading upon request.
Our solid waste department is staffed by five county employees, including a Georgia and SWANA certified manager.
