Historic Preservation Commission

The Thomson Historic Preservation Commission (HPC) was established in 2006 and administers the City of Thomson’s local preservation program. This volunteer board is charged with ensuring that exterior changes, additions and new construction meet design guidelines for structures in the designated district. Because of the work of the HPC, Thomson also qualifies as a Certified Local Government (CLG) community.

Thomson’s buildings have unique structural character and one purpose for passing Historic Preservation legislation is to protect and stabilize this character, particularly in our downtown commercial area and older neighborhoods.

Please browse the information below and submit questions or suggestions online or pass them along to City Hall.

You might also want to view historic photos and subscribe to the HPC’s mailing list.

We continue all efforts to grow and change our city in a way that pleases our residents and is attractive to visitors and new citizens.
